Sexuality and cancer

Ms. X was diagnosed with breast cancer at 51 years old. The diagnosis pulled the carpet from under her feet, as she never thought she could get cancer.

Luckily, the cancer was detected in an early stage, such that after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy she is now in recovery. She merely has to take an anti-hormone pill so that the cancer does not return.

She is just not the same anymore, though. After the therapy was completed, she thought things were starting to get better. Instead, the opposite is the case – she is always tired, has no motivation, and cannot bring herself to do anything.

Much has changed in the sexual realm as well. Her husband is no longer allowed to touch her breasts, as ever since her surgery she finds it unpleasant and not enjoyable to be touched there.

The anti-hormone pills often cause hot flashes, leading her to constantly have the feeling that she smells unpleasant.

She cannot engage in any sexual contact from her husband, which makes her very sad.
